Friday's Pick: The Lost Museum

The Lost Museum website is a wonderful example of how a digital story and 3-D visualization can offer an "innovative way to learn and teach about the many issues and events of the period."

This is a re-creation of PT Barnum’s American Museum as a"lens into mid-19th century New York City and antebellum America" and one of the activities on the site is to solve the mystery of who was responsible for destroying the museum by fire on July 13, 1865.

The introductory 'movie' is actually a good example of digital storytelling. With images, music and voice over narration, you are pulled into the context for the site. If it looks too sophisticated to be created by you, think again! Peg Keenan from UIT's Training and Documentation group gave a 5 minute introduction to digital storytelling using the free software Photo Story 3
