Friday's Pick: Social Software in Academia

EDUCAUSE has an excellent article "Social Software in Academia" at http://www.educause.edu/apps/eq/eqm06/eqm0627.asp that provides a nice overview of tools that can "support students and staff beyond the classroom, reaching around the world for learning and communication."

Featured are blogs, wikis, voice over IP (especially Skype), social bookmarking, and social networking. Included are a list of social networking resources that are linked.

So if you are wondering what all the excitement is about these tools since UIT now supports blog and wiki creation and will be supporting other tools, this is a good primer.
